We are Anne and Ken Aitchison. We are fortunate to live in the beautiful Royal Burgh of Dornoch, a small town in the Scottish Highlands. Famous for its Highland welcome, long sandy beaches, Cathedral and world-renowned championship golf course this has been our home for the last 25 years. Anne is a retired Nurse and Ken a semi-retired GP. Though enjoying our careers it meant that our true love of crafts had to be a hobby fitting around busy lifestyles.
Now with our 3 boys flown the nest we have a wonderful Highland cottage built in 1884. We share our home with our 2 English Springer Spaniels - Meg and Molly - and a tiny Yorkshire Terrier - Mia - who thinks she is a Spaniel.
In the garden we have a purpose built workshop that is constantly untidy with wood shavings and sawdust. Fed up with 'the mess' Anne has recently commissioned her own workshop to enable finishing work and lining of boxes.
When not training and exercising our gun dogs ( Ken gave up shooting many years ago) we have time to produce our crafts. It continues to surprise us that our pieces give so much enjoyment.
An addition to our work has been the renovation of a terraced Listed Cottage built around 1860. It has given us a lot of fun undertaking this work and making so many mistakes in the process. Fortunately it worked out well in the end. It is our intention to offer a limited number of courses for those wishing to try furniture or box making and the cottage will be included in the cost of the tuition.
